SYNERGIES
OF TIMBER, GLASS AND STONE

First impressions matter: with its bright spaces, elegance and homely feeling, HAUPTWACHE EINS is nothing less than compelling. Inspired by Scandinavian design, minimalism and warmth are the focus in this building. Large-format, floor-to ceiling timber casement windows give structure to the sanded and matte-polished Terrazzo façade.
In HAUPTWACHE EINS, timber, glass and stone combine with a number of green areas to form an organic, sustainable and resource-efficient whole. From an architectural standpoint, the result is an inspiring fundamental energy that enables occupants to discover new collaborative synergies.
CASPAR SCHMITZ-MORKRAMERIn the forefront for us is the diversity of the people in the building, not the building itself. We are fascinated by this diversity and want to interpret this into our architecture.

RETAIL
BEST ADDRESSES
IN THE BASEMENT

It is planned to create an attractive shopping gallery in the ground and 1st basement area, bringing diversity and new impetus into HAUPTWACHE EINS.
This will become a pitch for selected upscale retail in the fashion, lifestyle, fine foods and convenience segments; close to the customers, catering for their needs.
The ideal space for that special something with a discernible love of detail and the best things in life. The shopping arcade will set an appealing, vibrant and inspirational tone and enrich the overall building.
HAUPTWACHE EINS will be a new highlight within the city centre offering plenty of space to enjoy and relax. It is easily accessible from all directions; tailored for successful businesses and flourishing shops.

LOCATION
EXCELLENT LOCATION
FOR GETTING AROUND – MOBILITY HUB

Cycling, running, walking, being out and about. Mobility and transport connectivity are important factors when it comes to location – and they will continue to be. Thanks to its excellent location and short distance from ideal sites, HAUPTWACHE EINS lives up to the requirements for the 15-minute city concept.
The building places new mobility concepts and the necessary range of options that these entail at the core of its design. This is demonstrated in the building’s direct public transport connections, bicycle storage spaces and electric charging stations. Pioneering architecture concepts mean that the urban mobility of the future will be compatible with cities, user-friendly, sustainable and safe.

HISTORY
CITY HISTORY
RETOLD
The Hauptwache: The building built by Johann Jakob Samhaimer in the 18th century can look back on an eventful history. Originally used as a guard, it was completely destroyed in World War II and rebuilt true to the original in 1968.
On the southern side of the Hauptwache square is another of the city’s famous icons – the Katharinenkirche church, constructed in 1681. The Baroque building was also destroyed during World War II. Since its reconstruction in 1954, the Katharinenkirche and surrounding buildings including the clock tower from the Wilhelminian period have become landmarks in the city.
The Hauptwache department store was opened in 1956. In the following years, the square became continually busier as more stores opened their doors.
The Baroque Hauptwache building is a true symbol of Frankfurt. The development of HAUPTWACHE EINS will serve to redefine and reinterpret the historic location.
SUSTAINABILITY
BREAKING
NEW GROUND – SUSTAINABLY

HAUPTWACHE EINS will be constructed in compliance with KfW Effizienzhaus Standard 55 and will include a holistic energy concept with a photovoltaic installation on the roof and district heating conforming to the highest sustainability requirements.
During the pre-certification process, HAUPTWACHE EINS was able to achieve the full score of points and was awarded LEED Platinum. This equals to the highest possible standard to be achieved to do credit to a sustainably oriented building concept.
Highest ecological standards: this encompasses the entire development cycle, from low-emission demolition to the use of environmentally friendly building materials with a high proportion of recycled elements and efficient building operation.
A special highlight: the landscaped roof with widespread planting serves to improve the city center atmosphere, with rainwater recycled to encourage biodiversity. The generous terrace areas and the species-rich planting on various levels offer users an outdoor living space with a sustainable ambience. The focus is on people and the ecological benefits.
The underground garage will be fitted with EV-charging points for cars and e-bikes.
